There is a great deal of talk in the
religious world today about belief.  This is a
wonderful thing when we understand what
the Bible means when it talks about belief.
While it is not impossible to figure out
exactly what the Bible means when the word
belief is used, it does take some study and
thoughtful consideration.
Many times, one hears the word belief
associated with agreement.  Do you believe
that God exists?  Why, yes, I do!  In this
particular instance, one might easily
substitute the word agree.  Do you agree that
God exists?  Why, yes, I do!
Is agreement what Paul is talking about
when he writes that we are “saved by grace,
through faith”?  Is agreement what Jesus was
talking about when he said, “For God so
loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten son, and whoever believes in him
should not perish, but have eternal life”?  Can
you imagine Jesus saying that agreeing he
existed secures eternal life?  Or Paul saying
that we receive grace by agreeing that God
exists?
When the Bible talks about belief, it is
talking about something greater than
agreement.  It is talking about something so
powerful, that when we believe in the way
Bible uses that word, we are willing to do
something even when we disagree with it at
the time.
God doesn’t want us to agree with him;
God wants us to love him so much, that we
will listen to his word, trust it - even when we
disagree with it - and then faithfully carry out
his commandments.  We believe God when
we obey God.
May God bless you as
you study the scriptures and
use the information on this
site to help you in your belief
and your obedience to our
Lord and Savior.
